Gametophyte development and conservation of Ctenitis submarginalis (Dryopteridaceae) in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina Boletín de la Sociedad
Ramos Giacosa,Juan P; Gorrer,Daniel A; Giudice,Gabriela E; Luna,María L.
The spore germination and gametophyte development of Ctenitis submarginalis from Punta Lara Natural Reserve, Buenos Aires province were studied as a contribution to the conservation of the species in this protected area. Spores collected from natural populations were sowing in Dyer medium and germinated in six day with a percentaje of 88 % fifteen days after sowing. The germination is Vittaria type and the gametophyte development is Aspidium type. The gametophyte of Ctenitis submarginalis is cordate, with a deep notch and well developed and symmetric wings. The gametangia appear 50 days after sowing. The sporophyte emerges 190 days after sowing and two different hairs were observed in the first lamina. The in-vitro spore germination is a successful method...

Germination and sporophytic development of Regnellidium diphyllum Lindm. (Marsileaceae) in the presence of copper Acta Botanica
Cassanego,Mara Betânia Brizola; Goldoni,Angélica; Heldt,Fágner Henrique; Osório,Daniela Montanari Migliavacca; Windisch,Paulo Günter; Droste,Annette.
Regnellidium diphyllum Lindm. is a heterosporous fern growing in wetlands and humid soils that are being converted to agricultural activities. Many products that are used in agriculture contain copper, resulting in surface and groundwater contamination. Germination and initial development tests were performed using Meyer's solution containing copper sulphate at concentrations of 0 (control), 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100 mg L-1. The experiment was conducted in a growth chamber at 25 ± 1ºC for 28 days, with a 12/12-hour light/dark cycle and a photon flux density of 100 µmol m-2 s-1. The lowest germination rate (6%) was observed at 100 mg L-1. Primary root growth was significantly reduced at > 10 mg L-1. Secondary leaves of sporophytes grown in concentrations >...

Morphometric differences of Microgramma squamulosa (Kaulf.) de la Sota (Polypodiaceae) leaves in environments with distinct atmospheric air quality Anais da ABC (AABC)
ROCHA,LEDYANE D.; COSTA,GUSTAVO M. DA; GEHLEN,GÜNTHER; DROSTE,ANNETTE; SCHMITT,JAIRO L..
Plants growing in environments with different atmospheric conditions may present changes in the morphometric parameters of their leaves. Microgramma squamulosa (Kaulf.) de la Sota is a neotropical epiphytic fern found in impacted environments. The aims of this study were to quantitatively compare structural characteristics of leaves in areas with different air quality conditions, and to identify morphometric parameters that are potential indicators of the effects of pollution on these plants. Fertile and sterile leaves growing on isolated trees were collected from an urban (Estância Velha) and a rural (Novo Hamburgo) environment, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. For each leaf type, macroscopic and microscopic analyses were performed on 192 samples collected...

Taxonomic studies of Cheiropleuria (Dipteridaceae) Naturalis
Kato, Masahiro; Yatabe, Yoko; Sahashi, Norio; Murakami, Noriaki.
Morphological and molecular studies are made on the fern genus Cheiropleuria, which was treated in the past as monotypic. We describe C. parva, a new species from Borneo, and separate C. integrifolia, distributed in Japan and Taiwan and probably in China too, from Southeast Asian C. bicuspis. The three species differ from each other in the size, shape and texture of lamina, divergence angles between lobes, frequency of bilobed leaves, and spore size and morphology. Cheiropleuria parva is distinct from C. bicuspis populations sympatric on Mt Kinabalu in the leaves of juvenile and adult plants, suggesting reproductive isolation. Nucleotide differences in the rbcL gene support separation of the three species.
